Alex is the inaugural Director of Diversity Initiatives & Engagement at CAMD. Alex has been in Higher Education for over 15 years and has held administrative positions in several colleges and universities in New England. Alex is an active member of NASPA (Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education) and has been recognized regionally and nationally for his commitment and dedication to Student Affairs and for the work that he has done through the Gender & Sexuality Knowledge Community and Latinx/a/o Knowledge Community. Alex will begin his term a Regional Director in March of 2022.
Alex has an expertise in facilitation of training programs as well as performing institutional scans and program reviews. He has worked with higher education institutions, non-profits, and for-profit organizations on their inclusion efforts. Alex believes that authentic dialogue, reflection on our identities, an understanding of our history, and direct and consistent action are key to creating a more inclusive environment.
Alex was born in Lima, Peru and moved to the United States when he was 12 years old. As a First-Generation and son of immigrants, Alex believes that education is a right, not a privilege. His identities as a Latino Gay man has shaped the way he navigates his personal and professional worlds.
Outside of work, Alex enjoys exploring new spots to eat, binge watching his favorite Netflix shows, and spending time with his husband, three kids and two dogs.
